Foil Printing and Gloved Spines
Using the Powis Parker Foilfast® P21 Printer, Fastback Creative Books offers a variety of foil printing options. The foil is printed on flat sheets of faux suede which are then applied to the hard cover. Please see our swatches page for the colors available.

A few tips:
• We get the best results using fonts that are not too thin in weight. We find that parts of very small script fonts with thin strokes will break up when printing.
• We have two templates available for use. Our "FCB Gloved Spine template" for the wrapped spine, and our "FCB Foil Template" for use if you want your foil printing placed elsewhere on your book. If you're using the "FCB Foil Template" be sure to include written details about placement on your Specs Form.
• Be creative! With 7 suede colors, 7 foil colors, and the ability to use vector based artwork, this is an opportunity to truly make your book unique.

Frequently asked questions about our foil printing and gloved spines:

Can I have foil printing directly onto a cloth cover?
Unfortunately we only offer foil printing on our faux suede. By working this way, we can offer you a variety of options at reasonable rates.

What is a gloved spine?
A gloved spine allows you to have foil printing on the spine of your book. We print your file on a flat sheet of faux suede, which is then wrapped around the spine of your book. See photos for details.

Where else on the book can I have foil printing?
We can place the faux suede and your foil printing anywhere on the hard cover, whether you want it centered on the front cover, or a tab wrapped around the front. See our gallery for details.

Can I have more than one foil color?
You can use more than one foil color if you use the templates included in the Preparing Your Files packet. In the templates we have included 7 color swatches for use in your document. If you don't do this important step, we won't be able to print multiple colors!

Can I have images foil printed?
We can print any vector based artwork. Simple images and text work the best. See below for an example of a vector image vs. a photograph. If you include a photograph in your design, it will print as one solid box. See our gallery for examples of foil printed images.
